Our First Week in Wales Is In The Books!!!!!
It is hard to believe that our first week is behind us. The team has bonded well and I hear nothing but great comments about our team. It is a pleasure to be with such a wonderful group of young professionals from S.C. We were told before we came that one of the best part of GSE was the host family experience. That definitely was a true statement as we all hated to say good bye to our first hosts. It was a special experience and each family took care of us just like we were part of their families. Thank you Don & Dorothy, Paul & Helen, Nick & Angela for the all you did for my team. It was my pleasure getting to know you all. Don & Dorothy thanks for the laughs on Thursday night as I tried to explain the State dance (the Shag) to you along with Edwin. That was just what the doctor ordered. Edwin, you were the best and thanks to you for hosting Richard and I.
I told the Rotarians last night that their country was one post card after another and that so far my experience on a scale of 1 to 10 was about a 20 and it has only been a week. I know you can see from our posts we have done a lot, learned a lot, had fun, met many wonderful Rotarians, made new friends, seen beautiful countryside, rolling hills, cliffs with sandy beaches, sheep, foxes and learned about Welsh Culture and History and made two presentations. To AG Ted and all the Rotarians of Zone 2 of District 1150, thank you for a wonderful week and for your excellent hospitality and friendships. You have gotten us off to a great start of our 5 week adventure in Wales. They handed us over to Zone 1 and AG Tony Park after lunch today. The post card scenery continued as we left Zone 2 and headed to our next adventures in Zone 1. We stopped along the highway and we could look out over the bay and see the rolling hills and the town of Aberystwyth in the distance. We all have now arrived with our new host families and we all are staying with our own host families this time around. I am staying with Huw and Enfys Spencer Lloyd. We spent a relaxing afternoon on their sunporch overlooking their beautiful garden in their backyard from atop a hill. Enfys cooked a delicious meal and I already feel right at home.
Tomorrow, we will visit the Town Library and have vocational visits in the afternoon. Looking forward to our second week in Wales...Rick
