Haverford West

We arrived yesterday afternoon in Haverford West in Pembrokeshire, the southwest corner of Wales. On our way here we stopped at an iron age fort and living history park at Castel Henllys and then visited St. Davids Cathedral, the most important center of Welsh religous life. We were accompanied by our hosts throughout the day and joined them in the evening for Quiz night at the nearby cricket club. Four Rotary clubs competed in the quiz which included some of the most difficult questions I've ever heard. Thankfully, the GSE team was not competing. Today, we had vocational visits in the morning and a free afternoon. I met with the curator of the Haverford West Museum and then toured the town with a member of the town council who explained planning issues, rehabilitation guidelines, and the council process for the local conservation/preservation area. He was a great guide and gave me enough of a background on local issues to compare with my work in South Carolina. I look forward to checking in on the progress of the town from afar every so often. Betsy met a professor at the local college where we ate lunch who was teaching a class on heritage tourism. The professor asked the two of us to talk with the class for about 20-30 minutes on the history of South Carolina and efforts to promote tourism. The students have to complete a project on one local, one national (UK), and one international tourism opportunity. Hopefully at least one of the students will choose an international site in South Carolina. We're off to give another presentation tonight in Cardigan, about an hour away, returning to Haverford West tonight and the driving to Plymouth in England tomorrow for the Dsitrict Conference. Enjoy the photos.

We have most enjoyed following the team on your travels and especially the photos. Looks like a trip of a lifetime. You all sound quite busy and your hosts wonderful. Haverford West is dear to your mom's heart as the University and town outside of Philadelphia bring back fond memories. Glad to see that the camera is getting very good use. Oh yes Mia is still with us and doing well. Dad
